International Outreach - Ministry with the Congo

MISSION OF LARRY AND INGE STHRESHLEY
Ashland Presbyterian Church has long provided support to the work of mission coworkers Larry and Inge Sthreshley.
Larry works with partner churches and organizations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to help build capacity of health ministries. His work with IMA World Health assists partners implementing large, internationally funded health programs with positive impact on community health. Inge's work with the Presbyterian Church of Kinshasa and IMA World Health focuses on training volunteers to help communities address malnutrition through nutrition and home gardening education and improved cook stoves. She also assists the Methodist Presbyterian Hostel, a mission guest house and conference center, facilitating mutual mission between groups from the U.S. and Congolese partners.

Local Outreach- Serving the Ashland Community

We get  involved with local area mission projects like:
CARITAS (CONGREGATIONS AROUND RICHMOND INVOLVED TO ASSURE SHELTER)
Once each year Ashland Presbyterian Church joins other Richmond-area churches in hosting homeless individuals from our area. We provide meals for a 24-hour period, transportation to hot showers and a laundromat, and warm fellowship.
HANOVER INTERFAITH FREE CLINICS
Several times each year we provide dinners for volunteers at one of these five clinics that provide free medical and dental care to Hanover residents. We also help fund supplies and devices required for the clinics’ work.
We contribute funds to:
A.C.E.S. (ASHLAND CHRISTIAN EMERGENCY SERVICES)
ACES provides emergency food, clothing and household items; emergency assistance with housing, utilities, medications and medical equipment; and aid for stranded travelers.
HANOVER SAFE PLACE
A local women's shelter for the victims of domestic violence.
AND THE SPECIAL OFFERINGS OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA)
Which includes keeping a portion of those funds locally to support camperships at the Patrick Henry YMCA and contributions to the domestic abuse shelter - Hanover Safe Place.

We utilize our facilities for outreach by opening our doors to the recovery community, hosting both AA and NA meetings.
